Engineer II – IT Systems, San Jose
Job Description
Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking an Engineer II – IT Systems to join our team in San Jose. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of Tier‑2 Desktop Support activities, ensuring timely resolution of end‑user IT issues. The role requires close collaboration with our Tier‑1 and Tier‑3 IT teams. The position is primarily based at our San Jose – Fortune St. facility, with additional responsibility for providing support at our First St. and Holger locations. Occasional travel to these facilities will be required.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily technical support to employees for internal desktop systems hardware and software, as well as basic support for network, server, and storage infrastructure for approximately 175 users.
- Support of ITAR/CU facilities and users.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows XP, 7, 10, and 11 operating systems, workstations, smartphones, and network equipment in a heterogeneous environment.
- Operate and maintain the company’s internal data communication systems across multiple platforms and protocols, including VoIP.
- Provide support for virtual and physical servers running Windows Server versions 2008 R2 through 2022.
- Manage user and computer objects in Active Directory.
- Perform Windows imaging for break‑fix scenarios and new computer deployments.
- Analyze, install, modify, and support operating systems, databases, or utility software.
- Conduct routine backup operations for the Fortune facility.
- Provide support and troubleshooting for basic Unix/Linux requests and issues.
- Assist the Information Services Support Manager in standardizing organizational processes, procedures, and policies.
- Participate in the development of information technology and infrastructure projects as needed.
- Provide remote support for a limited number of home users.
- Travel to other Microchip facilities in North America may be required.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent with a minimum of 2.5 years of experience in an IT support environment.
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent resident.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to support multiple users simultaneously.
- Positive attitude and a proactive, solution‑oriented approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment with over 250 users.
- Comfortable working within a tiered support structure.
- Strong experience with Windows 11, Active Directory, and Office 365 in a heterogeneous environment.
- Strong technical aptitude and proven problem‑solving abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Solid Leadership skills
- ITIL Foundation V3 or V4 certification
- Familiarity with the ServiceNow ticketing system
- Experience supporting engineering lab environments
- Previous experience with Microchip Desktop Support Systems

Pay Range
We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in California, is $68,640 - $163,000.*
Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
