Job Title

Perform professional engineering work in technical review of project plans and specifications for the Engineering Branch of the Public Works Department (PWD) and manage engineering assignments according to time lines, budgets, state and Federal regulations, County policies and codes, environmental and water quality laws, and roadway regulations under basic supervision.

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Civil Project Management
  • Two (2) years of professional engineering, civil construction management or civil project management.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
  • Experience with Watershed and Channel Modeling software such as HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS/FLO-2D.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles of civil engineering programs, land-use planning, and construction project management.
  • Knowledge of Federal and state codes and regulations governing civil engineering and public works projects.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of civil engineering plans and specifications and advanced mathematics and physics.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, equipment, and supplies used in PWD engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of technical drafting principles and mapping and construction survey methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software, including GIS and AutoCAD software applications used in planning, mapping, and statistical analysis.
  • Skill in reading and understanding engineering plans, specifications, and schematics.
  • Skill in applying engineering theory and skills to solve engineering project issues and problems.
  • Skill in operating, calibrating, and maintaining specialized engineering tools and equipment.
  • Skill in interpreting technical information and producing basic engineering drawings and technical reports.
  • Skill in incorporating field notes and survey data into specialized engineering software.
  • Skill in applying algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to complex mathematical problems and making accurate computations.
  • Skill in interpreting technical instructions and analyzing complex variables.
  • Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices.
Physical Demands

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the ability to balance, climb, crawl, crouch, finger, feel, grasp, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, kneel, lift, pull, push, speak, hear, stand, stoop, walk, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and demonstrate visual and mental acuity.
