You'll rotate through engineering and drafting, building a real understanding of how a bridge moves from drawings to finished steel, while contributing to live projects alongside experienced engineers, drafters, and shop personnel.This is a mentored, hands-on internship: you'll start by observing and learning the fundamentals, then move into supporting real project work alongside engineers, drafters, and shop personnel.Responsibilities:Tour the fabrication shop and observe CNC machines, drills, saws, and shop workflowLearn key industry terminology: floor beam, stringer, truss, connection, splice, cope and moreMeet with Engineering and Drafting to learn how plans become detailed shop drawingsGain an overview of the full project lifecycle, from bid proposal through fabrication and shippingReview shop drawings against contract documents to identify and list key componentsAssist drafters with releasing shop drawings and related documentationSupport engineers with routine calculations and checks (bolt counts, paint area, pay weight summaries)Sit in on project meetings, take notes, and help organize project documentationSpend time in the shop connecting drawings to physical steel and learning basic weld symbolsTrack one or two active projects as a supporting team member through detailing and fabricationMaintain an ongoing "New Hire Notes" journal documenting resources and processes learnedSkills and Qualifications:Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related fieldStrong attention to detail, in engineering, accuracy is safetyProactive and curious; comfortable asking questions and seeking to understand the "why" behind tasksGenuine interest in structural steel fabrication and the bridge industryWillingness to spend time on the shop floor as well as at a deskStrong communication skills and comfort working across departmentsWorking Conditions:General office environmentCollaborative teamworkIf you think you have what it takes to become part of our team, contact us today.
