Utility-Scale Battery Energy Storage System Engineer IResponsible for supporting the engineering, design, and execution of utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role performs routine engineering tasks, applying foundational engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures. The Engineer I assists with project layouts, technical deliverables, equipment evaluations, and data analysis to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective BESS designs.This position can be located at any of our office locations: Dallas, TX; Indianapolis, IN; or Phoenix, AZ.MasTec Renewables, comprised of Wanzek Construction, IEA Constructors and White Construction, combines over 20+ years of renewable energy construction experience. With over 35,000 employees and 400 offices nationwide, we provide flexibility and career growth in dynamic work environments.ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and proceduresSupport the implementation of lessons learned and industry best practices with a mindset of continuous improvementCreate and optimize preliminary battery energy storage system (BESS) layouts under guidance from senior engineersPrepare and review engineering deliverables including drawings, reports, specifications, and limited-scope studiesConduct routine research and develop recommendations for BESS equipment and materialsDevelop familiarity with departmental design guides, engineering standards, codes, and MasTec Renewables proceduresSupport compliance with Company engineering standards, quality standards, and processesSupport value engineering efforts by assisting with design reviews and identifying improvement opportunitiesCoordinate with internal project team members and external engineering consultants as directed by project leadershipContribute to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scopeCollect, organize, and manage engineering data to support design decisionsPrepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysisCommunicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and technical personnel to support project executionFocus on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and driversShare current knowledge of latest technology and processesComply with the Company's engineering standards, quality standards and processesProvide necessary technical support to the Estimating team as neededContribute to process improvements, equipment enhancements, and cost-reduction initiativesReview field documents and ensure alignment with contractual requirements and standard installation practicesTravel to project sites as required to support engineering issue resolution, gather lessons learned, and strengthen relationships with field teamsOther duties as assignedQualificationsEducation and Work Experience Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related fieldAdvanced degree preferredOne to three years of related work experience preferredEIT certification preferred or on path to obtainExperience in renewable energy or energy storage strongly preferredExperience in engineering software preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company's Zero Injury principlesProficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office SuiteEffective verbal and written communication skillsStrong technical writing skills for technical narrativesRead, analyze and interpret drawings, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts, or governmental regulationsWrite reports, business correspondence, and document project activitiesBasic concept of budget, schedule, and quality requirementsInterpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formAbility to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel as well as manufacturing partnersMust be open minded, creative, and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find creative solutions within the confines of the codeConfident and possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically prove design conceptsAbility to multi-task and manage multiple projectsAbility to effectively communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, project engineers, code officials and third-party consultantsWhat's in it for You:Financial WellbeingCompensation $76,000-$98,000/ year, commensurate with experienceCompetitive pay with ongoing performance review and merit increase401(k) with company match & Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)Flexible spending account (Healthcare & Dependent care)Health & WellnessMedical, Dental, and Vision insurance (plan choice) -
