Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Experienced Veterinarian (Emergency focused) to join our team at Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital & Emergency Hospital in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care, possess excellent communication skills, and work alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, closely collaborating with the Hospital Manager and Regional Director.

Schedule

Expected daytime hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday *or* Saturday, Sunday & Monday. This schedule aligns with a lifestyle balance while practicing state‑of‑the‑art veterinary medicine in the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Key Responsibilities

• Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
• Client communication and education
• Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
• Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
• Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
• Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily operations from intake to discharge
• Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to uphold high standards
• Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications (Required)

• Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
• Current State Veterinary License
• DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
• 1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
• Excellent surgical and dental skills
• Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care
• Client communication skills to elicit information, establish rapport, and provide explanations
• Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderately demanding tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

• Clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other thorough examinations
• Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality veterinary hospital management
• Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff
• Professionalism and openness to constructive feedback
• Business acumen in understanding hospital management and finances
• Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient-related decisions
• Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of learning for others

Pay Range: $140,000—$160,000 USD
