Emergency Veterinarian - Carolina Veterinary Specialists

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emergency Veterinarian to join our team at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Huntersville, North Carolina. The role involves providing high‑quality veterinary care in a 24‑hour emergency and critical care setting, working closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff under the supervision of the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
• Client communication and education
• Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery
• Maintaining accurate medical records
• Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
• Promoting teamwork and staff efficiency
• Working with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
• Evaluating and monitoring protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge
• Monitoring cases and attending daily rounds to ensure highest standards
• Participating in practice management updates and training at all levels
• Performing other duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications (Required)

• Veterinarian degree (DVM) from an accredited college or university
• Current State Veterinary License
• DEA registration must be obtained and maintained
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary emergency practice
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
• Excellent surgical and dental skills
• Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care
• Effective communication with both clients and hospital staff
• Client communication skills: eliciting information, establishing rapport, offering explanations
• Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful animals
• Physical stamina for tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Capability to perform moderately physically demanding work
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

• Advanced clinical knowledge: cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological examinations and appropriate treatment prescription
• Problem‑solving ability to address challenges in high‑quality veterinary hospital management
• Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff
• Professionalism and capacity to provide and receive constructive feedback
• Business acumen: understanding of veterinary hospital management and finances
• Ethical judgment in patient‑care decisions
• Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others

Pay Range

$130,000 - $175,000 USD
