Overview
AWS seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer with technical leadership experience developing embedded software on custom hardware including the most advanced FPGA System‑on‑Chip (SoCs). You will help architect, develop, and integrate scalable, high‑assurance embedded systems in the AWS technology ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in developing high assurance software systems
- Develop embedded software using Rust, and integrate with third‑party libraries to build end‑to‑end high assurance 100G+ solutions
- Develop low‑level drivers for ARM and RISC‑V targets, Linux drivers and kernel modules, business logic, and scalable software solutions to interoperate with AWS services
- Decompose complex cryptographic and security requirements from government standards into actionable software and hardware design specifications
- Analyze and translate keying requirements including key generation, establishment, distribution, storage, and zeroization into embedded software implementations that meet government certification standards
- Lead design and system engineers to perform tradeoffs and architect new solutions for customers
- Help identify new opportunities and new technologies to improve the customer experience and add features
- Mentor and develop peer and junior engineers
A Day in the Life
You will be a technical leader on a cross‑functional team of hardware and software developers, writing embedded software in Rust to interact with custom hardware. You will help set and maintain the standard for code quality, understanding and planning for the impact of team decisions on software architecture in team meetings, code reviews, and through written documents. You will lead architectural discussions and strategic planning meetings, use and develop CI/CD pipelines to automatically run unit tests and hardware‑in‑the‑loop tests, deploy embedded software onto hardware targets, debug issues in RTL, hardware, or software, and document software sub‑systems in Rust. You will coordinate with the team daily to make design decisions, resolve blockers, and review code while mentoring other engineers.
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
- 4+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 3+ years of experience with at least one system programming language such as C, C++, or Rust
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI or above
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 10+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- 2+ years of experience in Rust
- 5+ years of experience developing embedded software
- Experience delivering government certified software
- Strong knowledge of networking, security, and cryptographic algorithms and protocols
- Strong knowledge of government security implementation assurance standards, evaluation methodologies, and approval processes

Base salary range is $168,100.00 – $227,400.00 USD annually, varying by location.
