Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn instructional strategies and behavior intervention techniques
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic technology skills for assistive devices and instructional programs • Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience working with children preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Provide instructional support to students based on their IEP goals under the guidance of the special education teacher.
- Assist in preparing and adapting instructional materials and accommodations. 3. Support student use of assistive technology tools and devices.
- Support student use of assistive technology tools and devices.
Student Management- Implement behavior intervention plans and use de-escalation techniques as needed. 5. Supervise students during transitions, meals, transportation, and extracurricular activities. 6. Provide assistance with self-care needs, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene, when required.
- Help maintain a structured and organized learning environment.
- Assist in tracking student progress, documenting behaviors, and supporting IEP implementation.
- Participate in professional development related to special education, behavior management, and instructional strategies.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families to support student success.
- Follow district policies, safety protocols, and maintain student confidentiality at all times.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard instructional and adaptive equipment, computers, and assistive technology devices
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking and movement; assisting with lifting and transferring students Lifting: Regular light to moderate lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to ensure safety
Environment: Work inside and outside; exposure to noise and possible bodily fluids; may require travel between campuses
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; manage frequent interruptions; support students with significant needs
