Description
The Electronic Security Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, testing, and documentation of Samford University's electronic security systems. This position serves as the primary field technician for electronic access control, video surveillance, electronic door hardware, panic and duress devices, intercoms, gates, and related low-voltage security equipment, including field devices and equipment connected to the University's Genetec platform. This position reports to the Physical Security Supervisor and works closely with the Locksmith/Door Technician, Information Technology, Campus Safety, Facilities Maintenance, contractors, vendors, and campus stakeholders.

Job Duties
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair access control systems. Systems include networked and stand-alone access control solutions and all related components including card readers, keypads, electronic locks, wiring, and all other connected devices.
- Ensure all installed access control equipment meets ADA guidelines and life safety codes.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cameras within Samford's CCTV environment.
- Work closely with the Department of Public Safety to find and repair offline cameras and adjust camera views as necessary.
- Interact with the University's work-order system to respond to electronic-security work orders in a timely and professional manner and communicate clearly with building occupants regarding repair status, service interruptions, and expected completion.
- Retain responsibility for security-system standards, Genetec system administration, access-control programming, administrative permissions, master-key planning, project priorities, and overall team supervision.
- Safely operate university vehicles, ladders, lifts, hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience installing, servicing, troubleshooting, or maintaining electronic access-control systems, CCTV/video-surveillance systems, electronic door hardware, low-voltage security systems, or closely related commercial or institutional systems.
- Possess a current, valid Alabama driver's license.
- Possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Ability to move, lift, or carry up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
- Ability to work from ladders, lifts, rooftops, ceiling spaces, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and other campus work environments.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Experience in a higher-education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, government, or multi-building campus environment.
- Experience with Genetec Security Center or a comparable enterprise level access-control and video-management platform.
