Electrician

Under occasional supervision, performs electrical installations, maintenance and repairs in schools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, schedules and standards. Assists in supervising assigned crew members. Reports to the Crew Leader or Supervisor of Maintenance Services as assigned.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assemblies, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Assists in supervising the duties of assigned apprentices and tradesworkers.
  • Works from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts; assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment.
  • Assists with obtaining prices for and ordering supplies required for projects.
  • Responds as needed to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Assembles scaffolding up to 30 feet.
  • Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including work orders, blueprints, specifications, accident reports, warehouse requests, etc.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, such as a two-way radio, vehicle, air lift, sky hawk, ditch witch, back hoe, truck, auger, hydraulic bender, power tools, hand tools, diagnostic tools, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, District administrators and staff, students, contractors, utility company personnel, sales representatives, etc.

Minimum education and training requires a vocational diploma supplemented by four years of experience in electrical repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver's license and be licensed as a Certified Electrician (Journeyman).
