Job Summary

The Electrical Journeyman is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electrical equipment and materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical equipment, including cabinets, meters, sub-metering, conduit, and wiring
  • Utilize electrical testing equipment as required
  • Obtain required electrical permits
  • Collect and review closeout documentation for jobs, including permits, site photographs, tests, test results and inspections
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Company, and customer safety standards
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment in accordance with Company requirements
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC, local codes, and Company safety standards
  • Independently troubleshoot, repair, and test electrical systems and equipment
  • Lead jobsite safety practices, including JHAs and hazard mitigation
  • Provide guidance and oversight to apprentices and less experienced personnel
  • Coordinate work activities with operations and field teams to meet project requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

Education

High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education

Experience
  • Two to three years of electrical experience
  • One to two years of wireless telecommunications industry experience
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and licensing
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and drawings
  • Must have valid state electrical license(s)
  • Experience working with various materials and tools, including copper and aluminum wiring, hand and power tools
  • Must have or obtain and maintain OSHA Construction 10-hour Safety Training Card
  • Other relevant certifications may be required as per the scope of work being performed (i.e. NWSA Certification, Hazcom Certification, Blood Born Pathogen Certification, RF Safety Certification etc.)
Technical Skills

Proficient in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems

Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics

Skilled in conduit bending, wire pulling, and panel installation

Experience with troubleshooting electrical circuits, systems, and components

Knowledge of electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements

Competence in using electrical testing tools such as multimeters, voltage testers, and circuit tracers

Ability to install and maintain circuit breakers, transformers, switches, and outlets

Ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults efficiently and safely

Soft Skills

Demonstrates strong safety leadership and accountability on active jobsites

Exercises sound judgment and problem-solving skills when troubleshooting and making field decisions

Communicates clearly and professionally with operations, field teams, inspectors, and other stakeholders

Effectively prioritizes tasks and manages time to meet project schedules and deadlines

Maintains a high level of attention to detail in workmanship, testing, and documentation

Takes ownership of assigned work and follows through to completion

Provides guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback to apprentices and less experienced personnel

Works collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining the ability to work independently

Demonstrates adaptability in fast-paced, field-based telecommunications environments

Physical Requirements

Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing

Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Company requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and grasp materials and tools with both hands

Ability to work long hours in outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, wind, or snow

Ability to stand, walk, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods of time

Ability to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall protection harness, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves

Must be physically and mentally fit to perform tower rescues and participate in safety drills and training exercises

Comfortable working in confined spaces and at varying elevations

Ability to work long and unpredictable hours

Ability to travel away from home up to 75% of the time, including weekends and extended travel. Travel includes local site travel or national travel depending on business needs.
