Position Overview
We’re seeking an experienced, hands-on Electrical Engineer to support the launch and ongoing development of a switchgear manufacturing operation in Prince George, Virginia.
This role is focused on electrical schematics, equipment layout, manufacturing support, troubleshooting, testing, installation awareness, and practical engineering decision-making for switchgear, control panels, and medium or high-voltage electrical systems.
This is not a traditional product-design or desk-based engineering position. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, industrial engineering, production, site leadership, and technical stakeholders to identify issues, improve manufacturability, and help the facility make informed electrical engineering decisions.
The right person will bring enough practical experience to operate independently and serve as a key electrical resource at the site. Since the operation is still developing, the engineer must be comfortable working through ambiguity, evaluating unfamiliar problems, and recommending practical solutions without requiring significant training or day-to-day technical oversight.
What the Engineer Will Do
- Provide hands-on electrical engineering support for the manufacture and integration of switchgear, control panels, and related power-distribution equipment.
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment layouts.
- Review electrical designs and layouts from a manufacturing and field-installation perspective.
- Identify potential electrical, assembly, installation, testing, safety, quality, and manufacturability issues before they affect production.
- Support the manufacturing floor when electrical questions, discrepancies, or technical issues arise.
- Perform structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical and production-related problems.
- Recommend practical corrective actions based on engineering principles, field experience, and manufacturing best practices.
- Provide input on electrical layout activities and help translate engineering requirements into executable manufacturing work.
- Apply prior experience with switchgear, control panels, E-Houses, power-distribution systems, or similar equipment to improve build quality and avoid field issues.
- Support testing, startup, installation, and commissioning activities as required.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production, engineering leadership, site leadership, and customer technical contacts.
- Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Help establish repeatable practices as the Prince George operation grows and matures.
- Promote safe, reliable, and high-quality electrical manufacturing practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, subject to client confirmation.
- At least five years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, power systems, industrial equipment, or field engineering.
- Direct experience with at least one of the following:
- Switchgear
- Medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical equipment
- Control panels
- Power-distribution equipment
- E-Houses or modular electrical enclosures
- Similar industrial electrical systems
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment layouts.
- Experience supporting electrical or electromechanical equipment in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, installation, or field environment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and manufacturing issues and determine root cause.
- Ability to evaluate how an electrical design will be assembled, tested, installed, and maintained, not simply how it appears on paper.
- Experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing, industrial engineering, production, quality, or operations teams.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical recommendations with limited oversight.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Prince George, Virginia.
Strongly Preferred Experience
- Switchgear manufacturing or engineering.
- Medium-voltage and high-voltage power-distribution systems.
- E-Houses, electrical skids, modular power systems, or similar equipment.
- Control-panel manufacturing and integration.
- Field installation, startup, commissioning, or site acceptance activities.
- Manufacturing-floor support for complex electrical equipment.
- Electrical equipment testing and failure investigation.
- Experience identifying design or layout issues that could create manufacturing or installation problems.
- Experience helping launch a new manufacturing operation, production line, or technical capability.
- Lean manufacturing, corrective action, or continuous improvement experience.
- Experience communicating directly with customers on technical issues.
