Electrical Engineer II – Power Systems (DC Systems / Plant Electrical)Experience Level: 3–6 Years Industry: Utilities / Power Generation Assignment Duration: 3 months up to 3 years Contract. Work Model: Hybrid (Onsite Birmingham, AL + Remote as needed) Client- Southern Company ServicesPosition SummaryThe Electrical Engineer II supports the design, implementation, and commissioning of electrical power systems for utility and power generation facilities. This role assists in preparing and overseeing electrical designs, specifications, and documentation while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA requirements, and regulatory obligations.This assignment is specifically created to support DC system wiring and physical design, including equipment specification, inspections, acceptance testing, and checkout support at power generation facilities.Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & EngineeringAssist in preparing and overseeing electrical power system designs, including:Scope documentsProject schedules and budgetsSingle-line diagramsElementary and wiring diagramsLayouts and circuitry designsPerform detail design for DC systems, including:Battery systemsBattery chargersInvertersUPS systemsDC fuse panelsSupport DC system wiring and physical design, equipment specifications, and design documentationCompliance & QualityEnsure designs comply with QA requirements, engineering standards, and federal, state, and local regulationsApply knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standardsSupport inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activitiesProject Coordination & LeadershipProvide technical direction to engineers, designers, and draftersAssist in scheduling and coordinating design activities to meet cost and schedule objectivesCommunicate effectively with:Plant staffDesign engineering teamsVendors and contractorsSupport checkout and startup activities when requiredRequired QualificationsAccredited Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering3–6 years of related electrical engineering experienceExperience with detail design of DC electrical systems, including:Battery systemsChargersInvertersUPSDC fuse panels7+ years of experience using:AutoCADAutoCAD ElectricalCAD OverlayAbility to prepare single-line, elementary, and wiring diagrams with minimal oversightStrong knowledge of engineering design principles, preferably in power plant electrical systemsExperience coordinating and scheduling design work to meet cost and schedule objectivesHigh level of initiative with strong planning and organizational skillsAbility to handle large power generation projects with limited supervisionAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationshipsPreferred QualificationsPower plant or fossil-fired generation experienceExperience supporting DC systems in utility or industrial facilitiesField experience including inspections and commissioning supportWork Environment & TravelHybrid work arrangement:Onsite at the Energy CenterRemote work as neededTravel required to power plants.Participation in meetings, inspections, and field support activities
