Electrical Engineer - Denver, CO
Join an electrical team at the beginning of its growth — not after the structure has already been built.
A well-established Colorado MEP engineering consultancy is expanding its recently established Electrical Engineering department and is looking for an Electrical Engineer with 3+ years of building systems experience to join the team.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants more than simply another production role.
You’ll be joining an electrical group at an early stage of its development, within a wider engineering business that already has an established client base, long-standing architectural and contractor relationships, and a diverse portfolio of projects across Colorado and nationally.
As the electrical practice continues to grow, there will be genuine opportunity to take on increasing technical responsibility, strengthen client relationships and help influence how the department develops.
What You’ll Work On - The project portfolio is intentionally diverse.
You could be involved in:
- Commercial developments
- Aviation facilities, including terminals and hangars
- Industrial and manufacturing facilities
- Healthcare and medical buildings
- Multifamily and residential developments
- Public and institutional facilities
- Renovations and existing-building upgrades
- New-build developments across Colorado and beyond
Rather than becoming locked into one narrow project type, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of electrical systems and building environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work closely with the firm’s mechanical, plumbing and wider project teams to deliver coordinated electrical designs from early concepts through construction.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and low-voltage infrastructure
- Developing electrical plans, specifications and construction documents
- Performing load calculations, voltage drop calculations and other electrical analyses
- Supporting short-circuit and system studies
- Coordinating electrical systems with mechanical, plumbing, architectural and structural disciplines
- Working directly with architects, contractors, owners and other project stakeholders
- Participating in project meetings and design coordination
- Reviewing existing building conditions and supporting renovation projects
- Conducting site visits and construction-phase observations
- Supporting project delivery from concept through construction
- Ensuring designs meet NEC requirements, local codes and applicable industry standards
- Contributing to the continued development of electrical design standards and processes as the department grows
For someone ambitious, there is significant scope for the position to develop beyond pure design production as the electrical team expands.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 3+ years of electrical engineering experience within building systems / MEP consulting
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience designing power distribution, lighting and associated building electrical systems
- Working knowledge of the NEC and relevant building codes
- Experience producing coordinated construction documents
- Revit and/or AutoCAD experience
- Strong multidisciplinary coordination skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with architects, contractors, clients and internal engineering teams
- A proactive attitude and interest in taking greater ownership as the department develops
Particularly Valuable
Experience with any of the following would be a plus:
- Revit
- SKM, ETAP or similar electrical analysis software
- Low-voltage systems
- Existing-building renovations
- Aviation projects
- Commercial or industrial facilities
- Client-facing project delivery
- Project management
- EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure
A PE license is not required, but engineers interested in progressing toward licensure and future leadership will be well supported.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Help Build the Electrical Practice
The electrical department is still relatively new within the business and is growing because of increasing project demand.
That creates an opportunity that is difficult to find within larger, more established engineering groups.
You won’t simply be joining an electrical department with every process, hierarchy and leadership position already defined. As the team grows, strong performers will have the opportunity to help influence:
- Design standards
- Department processes
- Project delivery methods
- Client relationships
- Technical best practices
- Future hiring and team development
For someone who ultimately wants to progress toward Senior Engineer, Project Manager or electrical leadership responsibilities, there is room for that progression to develop naturally alongside the department.
A Smaller Firm With Established Clients
You’ll get the visibility and responsibility that comes with a smaller consultancy without joining a business that is starting from scratch.
The wider firm has been established for more than 20 years and works with architects, developers, contractors and owners across Colorado and nationally.
That means the electrical group can grow from an existing project pipeline and established client relationships rather than having to build an entirely new business from the ground up.
More Project Ownership
Engineers are encouraged to understand the entire project rather than focusing solely on one isolated piece of the electrical design.
You’ll work directly with other disciplines, participate in project discussions and see how your engineering decisions affect the complete building.
As your experience develops, there is scope to take on increasing responsibility for projects, clients and junior team members.
Culture & Development
The company places a strong emphasis on:
- Mentorship
- Collaboration
- Open feedback
- Individual career development
- Flexible working
- Technical growth
- Long-term progression
The aim is to create an environment where engineers understand how their work contributes to both the project and the wider business.
Expected base salary range:
$82,000 – $134,000
