Onsite Full Time General

Electrical EngineerAccording to John Owen, co-founder of JetBlue and investor at De-Ice, "the best way to save money for an airline is to run a reliable, on-time schedule, and current-state de-icing makes this impossible."De-Ice is an MIT spin-out that's developed an electric de-icing solution that will solve this problem. This eliminates the need for the aircraft to hold on the ground for 30-45 minutes or more while workers in bucket trucks spray heated, toxic fluids on the aircraft. If you're passionate about aviation, engineering, and solving difficult problems join our team to take a big step towards making flying sustainable for everyone.ResponsibilitiesDe-Ice's Electrical Engineers are critical because they work on the core part of the De-Ice system: novel high-frequency power electronics.Based in the Boston area, Electrical Engineers support the De-Ice product lifecycle across several aerospace platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical engineering background, and experience designing, prototyping, and testing novel devices. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:Research and development of novel technology and engineering solutionsAssembly and testing of lab-scale, pilot-scale, and real-scale prototypesCreation of detailed engineering product designs, including state-of-the-art power electronics and control systemsSupport scaling for production, including evaluation of manufacturers' prototypes, selection and sourcing of components, and ownership of manufacturing documentation such as Bill of Materials, PCB Schematics, and PCB LayoutsSelect current and future projects in the electrical engineering team include design, analysis, prototyping, and testing work revolving around HF power amplifier designs using wide-bandgap semiconductors, mixed signals and embedded systems design, along with HF PCB layout, antenna tuning, and impedance matching; product updates based on certification testing and customer feedback; development and optimization of future product generations. They will use professional design and simulation tools including Altium, Solidworks, ADS, LTSPice, and MATLAB, as well as highly sophisticated measurement and characterization equipment including vector network analyzers, high-power RF impedance probes, and advanced thermal imagers.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent requiredHands-on experience with design, fabrication, and testing of electronic hardware requiredExperience with circuit design and analysis, schematic capture, and PCB layouts requiredExperience with hardware prototyping tools such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and microcontrollers requiredExperience working with electronics test equipment such as function generators, oscilloscopes, or vector network analyzers requiredExperience with analysis and design tools such as MATLAB, Altium, ADS, or LTSpice required2 years or more of professional or research experience in hardware engineering preferred, ideally with exposure to power electronics, RF, embedded, and magnetics systemsFamiliarity with component research, selection, and sourcing preferredMechanical engineering skills such as CAD, machine shop experience, or 3D printing experience are a plusEnergetic, driven, creative, and able to respond to unforeseen challenges and conditionsAbility to think critically in an ambiguous environment and take end-to-end ownership of projectsWe're a flat organization run by engineers and physicists where creative thinking is just as important as analytical prowess.

We are looking for people who share our passion for solving hard problems and collaborative invention.De-Ice is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on ground of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
