Electrical Designer IIIExperience Level: 7+ Years Location: Birmingham, AL/ REMOTE Contract- 3 Years Client- Southern Company Services.Position OverviewThe Electrical Designer III is responsible for developing detailed physical electrical designs for heavy industrial facilities. This role collaborates closely with engineers, architects, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality, code-compliant 2D drawings and 3D models.The ideal candidate brings extensive heavy industrial experience, strong CAD proficiency, and the ability to perform field walk-downs to ensure constructability and design accuracy.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & ModelingCollaborate with project teams to understand design requirements and objectivesDevelop physical electrical designs including system layouts and equipment arrangementsProduce detailed 2D drawings and 3D modelsUtilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) to create and modify electrical drawingsMaintain proficiency in design software and stay current with updatesExtensive 3D modeling experience strongly preferredCompliance & StandardsEnsure designs adhere to industry codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, etc.)Conduct code reviews and implement updates as requiredMaintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirementsDocumentation & DeliverablesCreate and maintain organized documentation including:Electrical drawingsSpecificationsBills of Materials (BOMs)Prepare technical reports and project documentationPerform quality checks and peer reviews to ensure accuracy and completenessField Verification & ConstructabilityConduct site walk-downs for field verificationAddress constructability concerns and recommend practical solutionsCoordinate with field teams to resolve design-related issuesCollaboration & CoordinationWork cross-functionally with engineers, architects, vendors, and plant personnelBuild strong working relationships across project teamsProvide design solutions and technical support throughout project lifecycleRequired Qualifications7+ years of heavy industrial electrical design experienceProficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD required)Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE)Experience producing 3D models for industrial facilitiesAbility to interpret technical documents and integrate multi-discipline designsStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityCore CompetenciesHeavy industrial design expertiseAdvanced 3D modeling capabilityStrong communication and collaboration skillsConstructability awarenessCode compliance knowledgeProblem-solving and technical judgmentThis role plays a key part in delivering safe, accurate, and constructible electrical designs for complex heavy industrial projects.
