Lead Electrical DesignerZachry Engineering Corporation is currently seeking a talented and self-motivated Lead Electrical Designer to join our Electrical Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position offers the opportunity to lead electrical design efforts on complex Power/Energy and Industrial projects, working closely with engineers, designers, and project leadership.Position SummaryThe Electrical Designer is responsible for applying advanced electrical design practices to assigned projects and leading design execution within the electrical discipline. This role involves planning and executing moderately complex design scopes or leading portions of larger projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring designs meet technical, quality, and schedule requirements.ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesLead and execute electrical design activities in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirementsSelect, recommend, and apply appropriate design procedures and techniquesPrepare and coordinate preliminary and detailed electrical designs for engineer review and approvalLead and coordinate a team of Electrical Designers, supporting project schedules and budgets in collaboration with Project and Discipline LeadsReview and check design deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and constructabilityApply strong electrical discipline knowledge while maintaining working familiarity with other discipline design requirementsServe as technical design checker when assignedCoordinate design execution within the electrical discipline and across engineering and construction teamsDesign and lay out: Raceway systems, including underground ductbanks, cable tray, and above-ground conduitLighting systems, including interior, exterior, and roadway lightingGrounding systemsParticipate in design reviews and constructability evaluationsProvide field support, including site visits, field verifications for retrofit projects, and as-built documentationSupport procurement and installation activities as needed, including on-site coordinationEnsure adherence to quality, safety, and project execution standardsQualificationsRequired QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Associate Degree with appropriate drafting and design courseworkMinimum 7+ years of electrical design experience within the Power/Energy and Industrial marketsStrong working knowledge of electrical raceway, lighting, and grounding system designProficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools, including AutoCAD and/or MicroStationWorking knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointAbility to work independently while collaborating within a team environmentWillingness to travel and work in both office and field environmentsPreferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in a related technical fieldExperience with AVEVA E3D and/or Bentley MicroStationCertificate in Design or DraftingPrior experience leading design teams or serving in a lead or checker role
