This role collaborates closely with engineers, project teams, and plant personnel to produce accurate, code-compliant electrical designs that support construction, inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activities.The ideal candidate brings strong CAD expertise, hands-on experience with DC electrical systems, and the ability to work independently on complex design tasks with minimal oversight.Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & DraftingCollaborate with project teams to understand electrical design requirements and objectivesDevelop detailed electrical designs, including:System layoutsSingle-line diagramsElementary diagramsWiring diagramsPerform detail design for DC electrical systems, including:Battery systemsBattery chargersInvertersUPS systemsDC fuse panelsUtilize CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, CAD Overlay; Revit or SolidWorks Electrical a plus) to create and modify drawingsMaintain organized documentation including drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)Compliance, Quality & CoordinationEnsure designs comply with industry standards, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements (NEC, IEEE, etc.)Conduct design reviews, quality checks, and updates to ensure accuracy and completenessSupport inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activitiesAddress design issues and provide effective technical solutionsCoordinate with engineers, architects, vendors, and plant staff to integrate electrical systems into overall project designsProject & Field SupportPrepare technical reports and documentation for project deliverablesSupport field activities, meetings, and inspections as requiredWork both independently and as part of a project teamRequired QualificationsAssociate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or related field5–7 years of experience as an Electrical Designer or similar roleExperience with DC electrical system design, including:Battery systemsChargersInvertersUPSDC fuse panels7+ years of experience with:AutoCADAutoCAD ElectricalCAD OverlayAbility to prepare single-line, elementary, and wiring diagrams with minimal supervisionStrong knowledge of electrical design principles and practicesFamiliarity with electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE)High attention to detail and commitment to design qualityStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build effective working relationships with plant staff, engineers, and vendorsPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldExperience designing electrical systems for:Power plantsIndustrial facilitiesUtility infrastructureExposure to PLC programming or control systemsPrior experience supporting Southern Company or utility environments
