With exposure to more than 20 million square feet of office space annually, this role offers a unique platform for long-term technical growth and career advancement.Core ResponsibilitiesDesign electrical power distribution systems for commercial and corporate workplace projectsDevelop construction documents including power plans, lighting plans, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment layoutsPerform engineering calculations including load analysis, feeder sizing, circuiting, voltage drop calculations, and system evaluationsSpecify and coordinate electrical equipment including switchboards, transformers, distribution equipment, and emergency power systemsSupport development of technical specifications, basis-of-design narratives, and engineering documentationDesign and coordinate lighting systems, controls, and energy code compliance requirementsDevelop and maintain Revit electrical models while supporting BIM coordination efforts across multiple disciplinesParticipate in clash detection, coordination reviews, and multidisciplinary design meetingsConduct field investigations, site surveys, and existing conditions assessmentsSupport construction administration activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, punch lists, and project closeout documentationCollaborate with architects, contractors, technology consultants, and engineering teams to deliver integrated project solutionsRequired Qualifications5–15 years of professional experience in electrical design engineeringStrong experience designing commercial building electrical systems and producing construction documentsProficiency in Revit/BIM for electrical design and project deliveryExperience designing power distribution systems, lighting systems, and electrical equipment layoutsKnowledge of grounding, bonding, emergency power, and life safety systemsStrong understanding of commercial building electrical design practicesExcellent communication, coordination, and documentation skillsAbility to manage multiple project deadlines in a fast-paced consulting engineering environmentPreferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related disciplineEIT certification or progress toward PE licensureExperience with New York City commercial projects and infrastructure constraintsFamiliarity with commercial code compliance and permitting requirementsExperience performing field surveys, due diligence assessments, and construction administrationExposure to mission critical or high-performance facility designProficiency with AutoCAD and electrical analysis software in addition to RevitExperience coordinating with technology, low-voltage, security, AV, and telecommunications systemsAbout Robert Derector Associates (RDA)Robert Derector Associates (RDA) is a full-service engineering firm specializing in MEP engineering and technology design solutions for some of the most demanding commercial environments in the world.
