Electrical Design Engineer IIIThis role leads the design of electrical power distribution, signal networks, and auxiliary equipment for gas turbine projects, with a primary focus on low-voltage systems (600V and below). You will develop and coordinate comprehensive electrical designs, ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and support projects from concept through commissioning while collaborating closely with internal teams, vendors, and field personnel.ResponsibilitiesLead the design of electrical power distribution and signal networks for gas turbine projects, focusing on low-voltage systems up to 600VAC and 220VDC.Design and specify auxiliary electrical equipment, including motor control centers (MCCs), low-voltage transformers, DC systems, and batteries.Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit and cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.Perform detailed engineering calculations, including sizing of breakers, overload devices, relays, cables, conduits, equipment spacing, and illumination levels, and maintain bills of materials.Develop and review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and participate in vendor selection for electrical packages.Generate complete electrical drawing packages that document logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interactions for use by engineers, designers, and drafters.Interpret and apply electrical codes and standards from the authority having jurisdiction, including NEC/NFPA 70 and other applicable codes such as CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA.Meet regularly with vendors to review technical details and schedules, ensuring all requirements are met.Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent organization into project deliverables.Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel and provide clear, timely guidance.Use SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D), or similar database-driven tools, to design electrical power and control systems.Apply current knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities to ensure robust and compliant solutions.Leverage experience with generators rated 150 MVA and above for gas or steam turbines; contribute power plant design expertise where applicable.Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and promptly report unsafe activities.Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational goals.Contribute to a positive team environment by collaborating effectively and supporting colleagues.Communicate clearly and professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.Manage multiple assignments, including rework, and complete tasks in a timely manner to meet schedule deadlines.Follow established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines in all aspects of work.Ensure product quality by following standard work and process instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.Develop project schedules, coordinate interdisciplinary inputs, and manage electrical design activities for projects of varying sizes with minimal supervision.Simplify product designs to improve manufacturability and reduce cost without compromising quality or functionality.Support Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering with projects that enhance existing product lines and help develop new offerings.Meet schedule requirements for all project engineering deliverables and proactively address potential delays.Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment, including troubleshooting and design clarifications.Lead and mentor junior engineers and interns, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional development.Travel up to approximately 10% of the time to support project, vendor, or site needs.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Minimum 7 years of technical and/or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design up to 600VAC and 220VDC with signal propagation; 5 or more years is desired.Strong electrical design experience in industrial plant environments.Proficiency in developing single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and cable schedules.Experience designing low-voltage power distribution systems including MCCs, switchgear, low-voltage transformers, DC systems, and batteries.Ability to perform equipment sizing calculations for breakers, overload devices, relays, cables, conduits, equipment spacing, and illumination levels.Experience creating power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, and conduit/cable tray arrangements.Working knowledge of SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D), or similar database-driven electrical design tools.Current, working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities.Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) / NFPA 70 and experience interpreting and applying code requirements.Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, and AGA.Ability to interpret design requirements from multiple stakeholders and integrate them into cohesive electrical designs.Experience preparing purchase specifications for electrical equipment and coordinating with vendors.Strong communication skills with the ability to respond effectively to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.Ability to manage and coordinate design activities for projects of varying sizes with minimal supervision.Capability to provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.Demonstrated ability to follow safety policies, standard work instructions, and quality procedures.Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 10% of the time.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with generators rated 150 MVA and above for gas or steam turbines; power plant experience is a plus.Familiarity with gas and steam turbine applications and their auxiliary systems.Interest or inclination toward computer programming languages.Experience with SmartPlant Electrical, including report creation and modification, symbol creation, filter creation, rules creation, reference data creation, batch mode operations, and data maintenance.Past experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation.Experience with SmartSketch for drawing creation and modification.At least 2 years of experience, or significant expertise, using SmartPlant 3D to create tray and conduit specifications, design trays and conduits, generate drawings, and extract bills of materials for the electrical module.Experience with Revit 3D or other comparable 3D electrical design tools.Experience using AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.Familiarity with lighting calculation software such as DIALux or Visual, including the ability to perform analyses and interpret results against code requirements.Experience designing and documenting AC and DC systems, including 480V and 220V low-voltage applications.Ability to simplify product designs to improve manufacturability and reduce cost without compromising quality or function.Experience assisting Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering with technical projects to enhance existing products and develop new product lines.Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support junior engineers and interns.Comfort working with database-driven engineering tools and maintaining accurate engineering data.Work EnvironmentThis position is based in an office environment in Lake Mary, FL, with a hybrid schedule that typically includes four days in the office and one day working remotely. You will work primarily with digital engineering tools such as SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), SmartPlant 3D (S3D), AutoCAD, and lighting calculation software, as well as standard office productivity applications.

The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, vendors, and other stakeholders in a professional setting focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
