nPosition Overview
nThe AES Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support one of our clients in the power and utilities industry.
nThis role will design, analyze, and deliver electric distribution projects for major utility organizations. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems, utility engineering standards, power system analysis, and client-facing project delivery.
nKey Responsibilities
nDesign overhead and underground electric distribution systems operating between 4 kV and 34 kV.
nPerform load-flow, voltage-drop, short-circuit, protection-coordination, and related power system studies.
nDeliver distribution engineering projects for investor-owned utilities and electric operating companies.
nApply client engineering standards, specifications, construction practices, and documentation requirements.
nSupport distribution planning, capacity analysis, reliability improvements, system reinforcement, and infrastructure upgrades.
nCoordinate with utility representatives, municipalities, field teams, permitting groups, and internal stakeholders.
nPrepare and review calculations, drawings, reports, design packages, and technical deliverables.
nEnsure deliverables meet quality, safety, regulatory, engineering, and client requirements.
nImprove engineering templates, procedures, technical standards, and delivery practices.
nIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen project quality.
nRequired Qualifications
nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
nActive Professional Engineer license; Illinois licensure is strongly preferred.
nMinimum 5 years of experience in electric utilities, power delivery, distribution engineering, or utility consulting.
nExperience designing overhead or underground electric distribution systems.
nKnowledge of utility standards, construction practices, design documentation, and project delivery.
nExperience with CYME, Synergi Electric, ETAP, or comparable power system software.
nStrong analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
nAbility to work directly with clients, technical teams, and field personnel.
nPreferred Qualifications
nExperience supporting an investor-owned utility or electric operating company.
nFamiliarity with Illinois or other regulated utility markets.
nExperience with solar, battery storage, or electric vehicle interconnections.
nExposure to grid modernization, automation, smart-grid, or reliability programs.
nExperience with urban underground, network, or complex distribution systems.
nFamiliarity with utility GIS, work management, and asset management platforms.
