Electrical Department ManagerOur client, a leading Engineering Consulting firm, is looking for a talented Electrical Department Manager to join their team on a full-time basis. This role is ideal for an experienced electrical engineering leader who is passionate about mentoring and team development. The position combines lead electrical engineer and project management responsibilities with oversight of a 15-person engineering and design team, including workload management, mentoring, recruiting, and retention.
This is a hybrid role in San Jose, and the salary range is $160,000 - $190,000 annually.Responsibilities:Conduct annual performance reviews for department staffLead recruiting efforts, including interviewing and hiring recommendationsReview and negotiate contracts and terms and conditions with oversight from CorporateManage staff assignments and allocate resources to meet project schedulesPrepare accurate meeting minutes and track action items to completionDevelop fee proposals and define project scopes of workEstablish, implement, and maintain quality assurance standardsSupervise electrical design production and ensure compliance with QA/QC proceduresAssign electrical project management and supporting engineering roles for new projectsLead weekly staff meetings to communicate assignments and balance workloadsMentor, train, evaluate, promote, and, when necessary, terminate department staffDevelop and maintain training programs and professional development resourcesServe as Lead Electrical Project Engineer or Project Manager, as requiredManage project financials in coordination with internal accounting teamsSubmit plans to applicable plan check agencies and obtain required approvalsReview contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and perform construction observationsPrepare detailed electrical designs, including calculations and technical specificationsCommunicate directly with clients through presentations, proposals, and project meetingsConduct job site investigations and field observations during constructionPrepare Due Diligence, Feasibility, and Basis of Design reports and demonstrate strong project management capabilities.In addition, the role requires proven expertise in electrical engineering, including:Design and selection of power, lighting, and low-voltage systemsCompletion of project tasks within established design budgetsCoordination of electrical equipment with architectural and structural designs, as well as with in-house mechanical and plumbing engineersCollaboration with equipment vendors and suppliers to evaluate and select equipmentRecognition as a technical expert with a self-motivated approach to staying current with industry trends and advancementsQualifications:Minimum of 12 years of direct experience with a consulting or design-build electrical engineering firmStrong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and construction and engineering processesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong computer proficiency, including electrical engineering analysis software, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and RevitProfessional Electrical Engineer (PE) license preferredLEED accreditation desiredProven project management experience requiredDemonstrated experience directly supervising and managing support staff requiredPhysical Requirements:May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequentlyMust be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.All employment is contingent on candidates providing at least two positive professional references from prior managers.
