Onsite Contract Construction

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned, field-focused Electrical Construction Manager for an upcoming 1099 contract engagement starting in January 2027.

This role is tailored for a hands-on technical leader with a strong electrical trade background who excels in constructability, field coordination, and trade execution. Stationed fully on-site in the east Mesa, AZ area overseeing the back end of a massive data center campus buildout, you will direct field operations, resolve complex installation sequencing, and enforce standards across safety, schedule, productivity, and quality. This is a 1099 contract with an expected duration of 1.5 to 2 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Execution & Constructability: Drive daily field operations across the back end of the campus, conducting active constructability reviews to identify and eliminate MEP spatial clashes and installation roadblocks before they hit the critical path.
  • Resource & Means Planning: Oversee the practical means and methods, crew sizing, material laydown, and heavy equipment required for complex electrical infrastructure.
  • CPM Schedule Coordination: Collaborate with the Project Manager and site team to integrate electrical milestones into the CPM master schedule, ensuring monthly logic updates and active look-ahead alignment.
  • Trade Leadership & Workflow: Guide trade foremen and subcontractors to maintain a steady, high-efficiency workflow across power distribution, pathways, and equipment installations.
  • Equipment & Long-Lead Integration: Track delivery and staging for critical electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, backup power systems) to align rigging and placement with the master schedule.
  • Turnover & Commissioning Prep: Drive progressive punch-list resolution and partner with owner representatives and commissioning teams for safe equipment start-up, loop checks, and energized testing.
  • Safety & Quality Standards: Enforce rigorous jobsite electrical safety (NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout) and ensure all field installations adhere strictly to NEC codes and project specifications.
  • Proposal & Precon Support: Contribute field insights, labor feasibility assessments, and constructability data to support ongoing project planning and proposal presentations.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Hands-on Trade Roots: Strong background directly from the electrical trade (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, electrical field superintendent, or startup specialist).
  • Field Installation Experience: 5+ years of direct electrical field installation experience and field leadership supervising complex electrical packages on large commercial, campus, or industrial projects.
  • Scale of Work: Practical experience operating on large-scale infrastructure or multi-phase programs (experience on programs exceeding $200M total size is highly valued).
  • Constructability Expertise: Exceptional ability to interpret engineered single-lines, BIM/MEP coordinated models, and architectural drawings to solve physical field clashes practically.
  • Software Literacy: Familiarity with digital construction field management tools (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud/BMS, Procore, Bluebeam) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Controls Knowledge: Knowledge of Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS) controls and equipment operating sequences is highly preferred.

Education & Credentials

  • Licensing / Education: Minimum of a high school education required; Journeyman-level electrician status or Master Electrician credential required (BS in Construction Management / Electrical Engineering is a plus).
  • Safety Credentials & Standards: Strong awareness and knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and Lockout/Tagout procedures; OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.

Contractor Attributes

  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: Able to bridge engineering specs with reality in the dirt—firm on code compliance, adaptable on practical problem-solving.
  • Autonomous Field Commander: Comfortable operating independently as an embedded 1099 contractor, driving accountability across trade partners.

Work Authorization

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
  • Successful applicants must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
