City of Santa Clara is seeking an Electric Division Manager to lead the utility’s compliance programs to ensure adherence with federal, state, and local regulations. This leadership role oversees compliance efforts related to NERC Reliability, electrical safety, environmental regulations, EH&S, NFPA, DOT, and other emerging requirements.
The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable setting strategy, coaching staff, engaging regulators, and working alongside technical experts. The incumbent serves as SVP's primary compliance strategist and subject matter expert, providing guidance to management and staff, coordinating regulatory compliance activities, supporting audits, evaluating regulatory changes, and developing risk mitigation strategies. The position also oversees compliance planning, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to promote a culture of compliance and operational excellence throughout the organization.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a closely related field.
- Four (4) years experience at a responsible level in engineering, administration, marketing, rate setting, resource planning, power contracts, power trading, risk management, communications, information technology, power operations, or maintenance in the electric utility industry or related field are required.
Possible Substitutions
- Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree in Electrical Transmission System Technology, Electric Power Systems, Environmental Science, Fire Science or closely related field PLUS six (6) years of applicable electric utility experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree and four (4) years experience.
- Eight (8) years of applicable electric utility experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
- An advanced engineering or business degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the experience requirement.
