Position Details
Position: EHS Specialist, Location: USA, Louisville, KY. Reporting directly to a Senior EHS Leader as an individual contributor, you will implement and maintain the GE Appliances EHS Management System at our site while working closely with various teams to create a culture that prioritizes safety and compliance.
Be a Leader in EHS Operations
- Provide expert EHS guidance to ensure our operations align with compliance requirements and business goals.
- Utilize engineering controls to identify and eliminate hazards, minimizing workplace incidents.
- Develop and execute site‑specific safety and risk management plans for injury reduction and EHS performance.
- Oversee environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to air, water, and waste regulations.
- Support the rollout of EHS training programs, helping our team stay updated on the latest regulations and safety practices.
- Foster a safety‑first culture by partnering with operators, technicians, and supervisors to embed EHS best practices in everyday tasks.
- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement preventative measures.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing EHS data trends and supporting problem‑solving initiatives.
- Communicate effectively, delivering strong customer service while maintaining a collaborative and open safety culture.
Drive Compliance and Management Systems
- Implement and maintain effective EHS management systems, ensuring sustainability and compliance.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to standardize safety processes like lockout/tagout and ergonomics.
- Ensure solutions address both immediate operational risks and long‑term environmental responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of EHS experience, with hands‑on expertise in safety, environmental, or ergonomic compliance.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT HMT, and EPA regulations.
- Ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks, and influence change in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate EHS guidelines clearly to team members at all levels.
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or similar credentials are a plus.
- Experience working in a unionized workforce and applying LEAN manufacturing principles.
- Proven computer and auditing skills.
What to Expect
Work in a manufacturing environment with safety equipment such as glasses, ear protection, boots, and hard hats. Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs) and frequent walking in a plant environment. Travel: 10‑20% as needed to equipment manufacturers or project sites. Off‑shift and weekend work may occasionally be required.
