EHS Specialist IThe Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist I is responsible for work in a wide range of EH&S disciplines. The ideal candidate will support the EHS programs with regard to EHS strategic goals and objectives. Passion for Environmental, Health and Safety; a strong desire to serve others in an EHS capacity, and work closely with the different people involved (employees, supervisors, technical staff, sub-contractors, etc.) in order to ensure safe working practices that comply with laws and standards.Please note roles and responsibilities are subject to change with or without advanced notice.Major Duties And Requirements:Complete daily safety inspections (productions areas, labs, warehouse, shipping and receiving)Weekly inspection for hazardous waste on satellite areas and track the hazardous waste manifestsMonthly inspections in the storm water and water sampling in the storm drains (4 events per year)Work actively with the hazard waste minimization plan over Thermoset and ThermoplasticIdentify and mitigate environmental risksTrack and monitor programs for corrective actions regarding accident investigationsIdentify risky behaviors within the organization and take appropriate actionEnsuring the wellbeing of employees in the workplace by providing employee safe working methodsAssist with ERT meetings and the Safety committeeAssist in writing and revising of facility EHS documentationConducts EHS-related training as needed (e.g., Hazcom, Hazardous Waste, different Safety topics, etc.)Develop awareness by providing formal and informal training opportunities related to EHSAssist with annual update of Hazardous Material Business planAssist with Industrial hygiene as neededPerform Ergonomic Assessments as neededAssist in developing new programs and procedures following OSHA, EPA and Company GuidelinesExperience And/Or Education Requirements:High school or GED required, Associate's degree in EHS discipline or relevant to safety is preferred1 year of experience in EHSBasic knowledge of CAL-OSHA regulations, EPA, HMBP, SWPPP and other related EHS regulationsKnowledge of Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies and requirements.Practical, hands-on experience with the following: Electrical/High Voltage Safety, ComplianceExperience with emergency preparedness and crisis managementManufacturing or composites experience preferredMust be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in EnglishComfortable interfacing and developing professional relationships with internal and external personnelMaintain work areas in a neat, orderly and safe mannerAbility to solve practical problems and resolve issues effectively and efficiently.Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlinesMust occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Follow safety procedures for PPE (personal protection equipment)Toray Advanced Composites employment practices offer equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate against its employees or applicants because of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, or any other basis prohibited by law.
