Job Overview

  1. Develop and optimize strategies for comprehensive management of waste water, air emissions, solid waste (including hazardous waste) to ensure compliance with U.S. EPA standards and state/local regulations.
  2. Monitor and optimize operations of EPA-certified environmental facilities (e.g., wastewater treatment systems, VOC control units) and propose efficiency improvements through regular performance assessments.
  3. Lead environmental compliance reviews, prepare monitoring reports and emissions inventories, and coordinate EPA inspections, state environmental audits, and third-party compliance assessments.
  4. Track EPA and OEM environmental policies to align factory practices with regulatory requirements.
  5. Conduct environmental risk assessments, identify hazards, and develop emergency response plans (e.g., hazardous chemical spills, fire incidents) aligned with OSHA/EPA protocols.
  6. Ensure full compliance for hazardous chemical (e.g., electrolyte, solvents) procurement, storage, usage, and disposal under EPA regulations.
  7. Coordinate with production, procurement, and engineering teams to integrate environmental requirements into supply chain management and production planning, ensuring EPA compliance for suppliers.
  8. Partner with external environmental service providers (e.g., hazardous waste disposal companies, monitoring agencies) to align with EPA regulatory frameworks.
  9. Responsible for on-site EHS management, serving as the liaison with client contacts and project team members, and managing on-site mechanical safety, fire safety, laboratory safety, contractor safety management, and other related areas.
  10. Empower and assist clients in establishing EHS technical standards and management systems.
  11. Lead on-site hazard inspections and specialized safety checks, and track the closure of identified issues.
  12. Participate in accident and incident investigations.
  13. Regularly communicate on-site safety management conditions with CATL EHS headquarters management personnel.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Safety Engineering.
  2. Preference for candidates with U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) certification, EPA-recognized certifications, or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) designation.
  3. 8+ years of experience in environmental compliance for battery manufacturing, clean energy, or industrial sectors, with deep understanding of lithium battery production and pollutant characteristics (e.g., electrolyte treatment, heavy metal control).
  4. Mastery of U.S. EPA regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA) and state/local requirements.
  5. Proficiency in pollutant treatment technologies and ability to provide technical guidance for waste management solutions.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills to address EPA inspections or environmental incidents (e.g., exceedance emissions, hazardous waste leaks) and drive corrective actions.
  7. Excellent English communication (written and verbal) for client/government interactions; Chinese language skills preferred for collaboration with Asia-based teams.
  8. Experience in building EPA-compliant systems for large-scale manufacturing; familiarity with U.S. supply chain ESG compliance and traceability frameworks (e.g., EPA battery recycling guidelines).
  9. Hands-on experience in hazardous waste management or hazardous waste identification, with ability to independently complete EPA forms (e.g., EPA Form 3000 series).
  10. Flexibility for short‑term travel (e.g., plant audits, client site reviews, training in China) and cross‑regional team collaboration.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  1. Regular, predictable on‑site attendance is an essential function of this role.
  2. Ability to move throughout offices, manufacturing facilities, and construction areas, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  3. Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25-50 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Ability to work in varied environments, including offices, industrial, and construction settings.
  5. Willingness to travel to other job sites as business needs require.
