Project Safety Coordinator (PSC)

n

Project-Based | Construction Safety

n

Position Overview

n

The Project Safety Coordinator (PSC) is responsible for leading and overseeing all construction safety activities for the duration of the project lifecycle — from commencement through Substantial Completion (as defined by the Owner’s Designated Representative (ODR)). This role ensures full compliance with project-specific safety requirements, regulatory standards, and owner expectations.

The PSC must remain active on the project until formally released with written approval from the ODR.

n

Key Responsibilities

n

Lead and enforce all site safety programs, policies, and procedures throughout the project duration

n

Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters with the Owner, ODR, and project team

n

Conduct site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits to ensure compliance

n

Oversee incident prevention, reporting, and investigation processes

n

Ensure all safety training, documentation, and certifications meet project and regulatory requirements

n

Maintain detailed records of safety activities, training, and compliance documentation

n

Support continuous safety improvement initiatives across all construction operations

n

Minimum Qualifications

n

Experience Requirements

n

7+ consecutive years dedicated exclusively to building construction safety

n

5+ years in building construction safety management

n

Experience must be specific to building construction (general industry or specialty contractor safety experience will not qualify)

n

Alternate Qualification Path:

n

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Safety (or related discipline) + 3+ years of field experience in building construction safety

n

Additional Experience Credit:

n

Up to 2 years of additional credit may be granted for nationally recognized certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST), subject to owner approval

n

Required Certifications & Training

n

OSHA 500 (Construction Trainer) or OSHA 502 (Update for Construction Trainers) – Required

n

Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (within last 2 years, with in-person competency validation)

n

Demonstrated continuing safety education over the past 5 years (minimum 4 hours per topic)

n

Required Technical Competencies

n

Demonstrated training, working knowledge, and continuing education in:

n

Fall Protection

n

Scaffolding (supported and suspended)

n

Excavation & Trenching

n

Confined Space (permit & non-permit)

n

Crane Operations

n

Electrical Safety

n

Incident Investigation

n

Industrial Hygiene (construction-focused)

n

Fire Protection & Prevention

n

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)

n

Basic Crane Rigging

n

Respiratory Protection

n

Additional Requirements

n

All qualifications, certifications, and training must be submitted and approved prior to project start

n

All credentials must be maintained throughout the duration of the project

n

Ability to provide supporting documentation for all training and certifications upon request

n

Training providers and certifications are subject to Owner approval and validation
