Environment, Health & Safety Manager
A leading manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to support a new manufacturing location. This onsite role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, with a strong focus on building and sustaining a proactive safety culture. The EHS Manager will partner closely with operations, engineering, facilities, and leadership to implement effective EHS programs and drive continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with applicable EHS regulations at the state and federal levels
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact to site operations
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and site-specific programs
- Establish and track EHS metrics; analyze trends and present insights to management to support continuous improvement
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs aligned with regulatory and corporate requirements
- Lead and oversee incident and accident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action completion
- Conduct EHS audits, inspections, and risk assessments; participate in external compliance and loss-prevention audits
- Coordinate and track corrective actions resulting from audits, assessments, and inspections
- Partner with facilities and property management to ensure appropriate fire and life safety controls are in place and maintained
- Oversee required environmental permitting (air, water, and land) and associated reporting
- Serve as the primary site contact for government and regulatory inquiries related to EHS
- Act as a technical EHS resource for leadership and employees; lead the site safety committee
- Support and participate in Continuous Improvement / 6S initiatives
- Provide recommendations to enhance EHS practices, performance, and compliance
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in EHS roles within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. and North Carolina EHS regulations
- Proven experience implementing and managing EHS programs in an operational setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and influence others
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting new facility start-ups
- Prior experience leading safety committees
- Exposure to ISO-based EHS management systems
- Experience with continuous improvement or Lean/6S initiatives
