The technologist ensures the accurate and timely acquisition of high-quality neurodiagnostic data to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological disorders. Works collaboratively with the care team to maintain optimal standards of patient care, safety, and customer service.Essential FunctionsPerforms standard and complex EEGs, evoked response tests, and other neurodiagnostic proceduresPrepares, calibrates, and operates neurodiagnostic equipmentScores, processes, and archives recordings for physician interpretationMaintains accurate records, charges, reports, and patient documentationEnsures proper function and cleanliness of all diagnostic equipment; reports malfunctions promptlyCollaborates with interdisciplinary team members in scheduling, patient care, and diagnosticsParticipates in quality assurance and safety initiatives for the neurodiagnostic labDemonstrates competency in recognizing normal and abnormal waveformsAssists in orientation and training of new staff or students as neededPractices infection control and safety protocols at all timesKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsKnowledge of 10-20 EEG system of electrode placementStrong understanding of neuroanatomy and central nervous system disordersExcellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and clinical staffCritical thinking and problem-solving abilities under minimal supervisionAbility to lift equipment and assist patients during proceduresMaintains professionalism and demonstrates integrity in all patient and team interactionsAdheres to HIPAA and all regulatory standards relevant to neurodiagnostic servicesQualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of an accredited EEG program or equivalent on-the-job training preferred.Two years of college coursework in neuroanatomy, physiology, and related sciences preferred.License/CertificationsBasic Life Support (BLS) required.Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) through ABRET preferred or required within 1 year of hire.If registered, use JC -EEG Tech-Registered.ExperienceOne year of EEG experience required.Experience with evoked potentials, sleep studies, or intraoperative monitoring preferred.
