Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Educator, RN in Periop, in accordance with our mission and core values of integrity, compassion, collaboration, and excellence, this position serves as a consultant/resource professional by providing staff development expertise as an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher. It ensures educational initiatives are aligned with the Perioperative department's goals and facility leadership priorities. The Perioperative Educator supports the development of the direct-care nurse and fosters nursing excellence through new knowledge and the delivery of evidence-based practice. Facilitation includes assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development, in close collaboration with the Perioperative Leadership Team. The Clinical Nurse Educator also serves as a role model for professional behavior. Teamwork is essential, and incumbents are expected to demonstrate commitment through effective collaboration.

This position will cover the Trauma ORs including Northridge, California and St Mary.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses educational needs through formal and informal methods in consultation with Perioperative Management teams and staff, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and challenges.
  • Evaluates projects for outcomes, shares findings and proposes revisions to Perioperative leadership; aligns educational activities with nursing strategies and operational mandates.
  • Annually conducts educational needs assessments and presents findings and plans to the Perioperative leadership team for feedback and approval.
  • Evaluates educational projects based on system needs and outcome criteria; communicates progress to Perioperative leadership and reports broader outcomes to the Market Chief Nurses.
  • Collaborates with market leaders of Perioperative Services to ensure 100% implementation of perioperative safety initiatives and other patient safety projects.
  • Reports timely status on perioperative safety initiatives to Chief Nurses, Directors of Emergency Services, Patient Safety, and Clinical Risk Management.
  • Reviews data and processes to evaluate compliance with perioperative safety initiatives, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
  • Supports the market in rolling out perioperative safety projects and goals, reporting results and providing training as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and facilitates learning opportunities and drills for perioperative departments, including Mock Codes, disaster preparedness, and critical incident simulations.

Job Requirements

  • Current and Active CA Registered Nurse
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • AHA Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS-I)
