Locations: Brooklyn, NY and Staten Island, NY (on-site, alternating weeks)

About the Role

NWill Strategies is seeking a part-time Educational Specialist to design and deliver educational workforce development programming for men and women living in transitional housing. This contractor will research best practices, collaborate with NWill Strategies staff and site partners, develop program materials, and facilitate workshops that help residents build the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to move toward stable employment and independence.

Key Responsibilities

* Workshop Facilitation

- Lead engaging, practical workforce readiness workshops for adult residents at transitional housing sites in Brooklyn and Staten Island
- Adapt content and delivery style to different learning levels, backgrounds, and life experiences
- Create a respectful, trauma-informed, and supportive learning environment
- Track attendance and participant engagement

* Research and Curriculum Development

- Research current workforce trends, in-demand industries, training pathways, and employment resources available in New York City
- Identify evidence-based and best-practice approaches to adult education and workforce development
- Develop workshop topics such as resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, digital literacy, financial literacy, workplace communication, and career exploration

* Materials Development

- Design and produce workshop materials, including facilitator guides, handouts, worksheets, presentations, and resource lists
- Ensure materials are clear, accessible, culturally responsive, and appropriate for adult learners
- Update and improve materials based on participant feedback and program outcomes

* Collaboration

- Work closely with NWill Strategies leadership, program staff, and transitional housing site staff to align workshops with participant needs and program goals
- Share feedback and observations about participant progress and program effectiveness
- Coordinate scheduling, room setup, and logistics with each site

* Reporting

- Submit brief session summaries and attendance records
- Provide recommendations for future workshops and materials
- Schedule and Time Commitment

* Works two days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
* Both days are spent at the same site each week, and the schedule alternates between Brooklyn and Staten Island on different weeks (for example, Brooklyn one week, Staten Island the next)
* Approximately four sessions per month at each site
Workshop times within the 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM window are set in coordination with NWill Strategies and site partners
* Time outside of workshops on those days may be used for research, planning, collaboration, and materials development, and is billed at the same hourly rate as agreed with NWill Strategies

* Qualifications

* Required

- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, workforce development, or a related field
- Experience teaching or facilitating workshops for adults
- Strong research, writing, and curriculum design skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing housing instability
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to manage time as an independent contractor
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
- Ability to travel to sites in Brooklyn and Staten Island

* Preferred

- Experience working with transitional housing, shelter, reentry, or other underserved populations
- Knowledge of NYC workforce development resources and employers
- Familiarity with trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches
- Experience with adult learning principles and program evaluation
- Bilingual skills
- Compensation and Terms

* $65 per hour, paid as an independent contractor (1099); the contractor is responsible for their own taxes
* No benefits included
* Part-time; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
* Pay: $65.00 per hour
