Qualifications:
- Must have at least 60 semester hours of college credit or pass approved paraprofessional test.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must demonstrate a patient and receptive attitude toward children with special needs.
- Must demonstrate a professional attitude about the position.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding students' academic and social/behavioral performance.
- Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of the team.
- Must be able to effectively and tactfully present information in one-on-one small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
- Must be able to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Must be able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Physical abilities required are as follows:
- Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects. This may include lifting or moving students who are physically disabled and/or adaptive equipment and supplies.
- Possession of fine motor skills.
- Possession of unrestricted mobility, which includes ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Possession of good visual ability.
- Ability to hear in a noisy environment.
- Will carry out written and/or verbal instructional plans provided by the certified teacher.
- Will assist with academic and learning activities through tutoring, note taking, modeling, mentoring, duplicating, grading, constructing materials, and general clerical work.
- Will assist with control of students through interaction and supervision as directed by the certified teacher.
- Will assist with non-instructional activities. This may include providing daily and emergency personal care needs of students: wheel chair movement and positioning, toileting, feeding, and other activities as appropriate.
- Will carry out other assigned duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position.
