Educational Aide (General)
Reports to: Campus Principal, Asst. Principal, or designee and teacher assigned.
Dept./School: Elementary/Secondary Education
Length of Contract: 10 mos.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Texas Education Agency paraprofessional educational aide certificate
Experience working with children
Ability to get along with others and follow directions while working independently
Computer/typing skills and/or willingness to learn
Job Goal:
The role of the educational aide is to assist classroom teacher(s) in facilitating student achievement; assist the teacher(s) in contributing to the educational system as a whole and to the growth of each student; assist the teacher(s) in aiding each student in developing skills, acquiring knowledge and achieving maximum potential.
Major Duties:
Supervises small group student activities
Conducts one-on-one instructional activities
Performs clerical (instructional) activities for the classroom teacher
Distributes and collects instructional material
Assists in classroom management and supervision
Set up and assist with supervision of listening stations and/or centers
Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work in variable environmental conditions related to temperature, humidity and other atmosphere conditions
Possible travel by car, van or bus, and working alone or with others
Physical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more, talking, bending, kneeling, pulling, reaching, grasping, pushing, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, occasional running and the ability to move with agility
The ability to assist students with toileting and personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, positioning and seizure activity
Knowledge of or ability to learn behavior management intervention techniques
The ability to maintain emotional control under stress
The ability to understand and maintain confidentiality
Ability to cope with biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate in oral and written form in English
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisors
Ability to follow directives from the principal, associate and assistant principal
