Education Program Development Team Lead

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is seeking to employ an Education Program Development Team Lead in the Office of Student Assessment (OSA). This position will serve as an interdepartmental representative between the offices of Student Assessment and Special Education and will work with district personnel to coordinate the implementation of the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program – Alternate (MAAP-A). Candidates must have knowledge of students with significant cognitive disabilities (SCD) and understand federal rules and regulations specific to the alternate assessment of this population. The successful candidate will work with the assessment vendor to plan, construct, and implement the MAAP-A assessment for students throughout the state.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Knowledge of appropriate practices (both instructionally and developmentally) for students with SCD.
  • Ability to work with other program coordinators, other MDE offices, and school district staff to administer state assessments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), State law, and MDE/OSA policies related to alternate assessment.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks and manage time independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in both written and verbal communication and in presentations to stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to districts to provide in-person training, and on-site technical assistance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Typically requires a relevant Master's Degree, may require certification, and 4+ years of experience.
  • Agency preferred qualifications: Experience in delivering professional development specific to the MAAP-A program.
