The Kentucky Department of Education is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of theEducation and Workforce Development Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky’spublic schools and districts as they implement the state’s P-12 education requirements. The department alsoserves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.
The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-memberKentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners, and divisions within thoseoffices are administered by division directors.
The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the KentuckySchool for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

The department seeks to hire a smart, experienced, hardworking, and dependable Education Program Consultant tojoin our dedicated team. This role represents a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic, challenging, andprofessional environment.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Under general direction, provides consultative services and technical assistance to local schooldistrict personnel and other state and private educational agencies in the development, coordination,implementation, and monitoring of their educational programs.
- Under general direction, provides consultative services in interpreting, applying, and enforcing stateand federal regulations related to the state funded preschool program and monitors programs to ensure correctinterpretation and application of standard regulations and policies are met.
- Provide technical assistance in the development and production of resources materials (both physicaland electronic formats) for school districts related to preschool.
- Support districts with selection of appropriate school readiness instructional materials that reflectthe goals of the Kentucky educational system. Assist in and promote all early childhood and school readinessservices of Office of Special Education and Early Learning.
- Collaborate with Regional Training Centers (RTCs) to ensure compliance with state and federalregulations for preschool special education.
- Keep personally informed on new school readiness research, approaches to learning, best practices and disseminate that information to school districts.
- Provides staff support to other offices within and outside the department concerning preschool relatedissues.
