ED Safety Partner - Level 1 Trauma 3p-11p

Overview

Safety Partner. This position is on‑site in Norfolk, Virginia. Full‑time (36 hours a week) on the second (evening) shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Emergency Department. The role assists in creating a safe hospital environment for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self‑harm, or other risk behaviors, enabling patients to maintain or enhance function during their stay.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor patients for risk behaviors and provide interventions as needed.
• Implement communication, confidentiality, de‑escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke, and suicide protocols.
• Complete Sentara Safety Partner Training and core competency training during orientation.
• Participate in de‑escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, or within 15 days for Behavioral Health units.

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Certification / Licensure

• BLS required within 90 days of hire

Experience

• Previous healthcare experience preferred
• Applicants without prior experience or current health sciences program status must successfully complete the Sentara Safety Partner Training Course in addition to core competencies during orientation
