About the Role

The Echocardiography Technician plays a key role in cardiac imaging, supporting diagnostic procedures and patient care through high‑quality echocardiograms in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedures.
  • Analyzes results and identifies image quality issues.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patients and repeating procedures.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
  • Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice when ordered.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes as appropriate.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Implements safety standards and performs quality control procedures on equipment; troubleshoots, resolves, and reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s degree required.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Licenses: Current Echo registry; must have ARDMS registry or be registry eligible; must have cardiac registry with 1 year of employment.
  • Skills: Familiarity with organization and functions of hospital departments; leadership ability, integrity, and initiative; problem solving; stress handling; maintain harmonious relationships with nursing, medical staff, and hospital administration.
