Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant

The employee provides support to students who have health, behavioral, or instructional needs to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and have success in the general curriculum. Job specific duties depend on how the Principal advertises the vacancy. The Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant position may require duties in areas such as behavior support, client care, pre-kindergarten classes, visually impaired classes, and (sub) bus driver responsibilities. The employee will participate in staff development and training, prepare materials, operate office equipment, assist teachers, communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and report collected data to appropriate individuals.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include understanding child development stages, organizing assignments, using sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality, general knowledge of classroom activities, routines, and emergency procedures, adapting instruction for special needs, and operating common office machines.

Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma, minimum of 48 semester hours or an associate's degree, and willingness to obtain a CDL if required. This position reports to the school principal and is classified as non-exempt.
