Job Overview: The Early Intervention Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) screens, evaluates, and provides ongoing assessment for children with physical, cognitive, communication, social, and adaptive developmental delays. The SLP assists in developing an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for each child and delivers direct services. Together with the team, the SLP models strategies for parents and caregivers, discusses progress, and prepares transition/discharge plans. This position serves families in Somerset County and Middlesex County.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • NJ Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • Valid NJ driver’s license and required insurance
  • At least 2 years’ experience with young children with disabilities
  • Targeted Evaluation team members must have 2 years of pediatric experience with children ages 0-5
  • Sound background in normal child development
  • Knowledge of the educational and therapeutic value of early intervention for children with developmental delays
  • Knowledge of basic principles of behavior management
  • Ability to conceptualize, interpret, and integrate early childhood educational and intervention techniques into family routines

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • NJ Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • NJ Driver's License

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Complete developmental evaluations in the child’s natural environment to identify strengths and needs.
  • Communicate effectively with families and team members in oral and written formats.
  • Support and enhance family ability to interact with their child in daily routines.
  • Provide strategies that are appropriate, measurable, and functional as part of the IFSP.
  • Make recommendations for ongoing services in collaboration with family, coordination, and team members.
  • Use the NJ Birth to Three Early Learning Standards as a framework for expectations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of discipline-specific tools and checklists for assessing child needs and describing strategies unique to a licensed SLP.
  • Address IFSP outcomes by selecting and adapting activities, using evidence‑based intervention models.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of methods while meeting family outcomes.
  • Maintain sensitivity to parents’ personal circumstances, confidentiality, and adhere to the NJEIS Code of Conduct.
  • Complete session notes and record data per departmental rules.
  • Seek supervision or consultation regarding clinical performance; contribute to performance reviews and improvement plans.
  • Assist in training others in the EI philosophy and evidence‑based models.
  • Communicate job-specific concerns and participate in solution development.
  • Attend in‑service trainings, staff meetings, and conference calls.
  • Travel in personal vehicle to each family’s natural environment.
  • Record time and frequency of services and obtain required signatures for billing.
  • Submit bills for services following departmental policies.
  • Submit required paperwork promptly to meet volume and productivity needs.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the office via email, text, and telephone; respond promptly to information requests.
