Early Career Mechanical EngineerAs an Early Career Mechanical Engineer you will support the design and analysis of building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities. This role involves assisting senior engineers and project managers with HVAC, ductwork, piping, and plumbing system design, engineering calculations, drawing development, and construction support.The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to deliver fully coordinated, high-quality design packages, while adhering to Amentum's engineering procedures and quality standards.Key Responsibilities:Assist senior engineers with the design of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including B31.3 process pipingPerform basic engineering calculations under direct supervision, such as:Heating and cooling load calculationsPipe and duct sizingEquipment selection supportCreate and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, SmartPlant, or similar drafting tools.Apply applicable codes, standards, and procedures (e.g., IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME)Attend project meetings and training sessions as requiredMaintain organized project files, drawings, and documentationFollow established quality assurance programs and proceduresBasic Qualifications:B.S. Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.0 to 5 years in industrial/government design of Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing Systems, and related mechanical building systems.Able to work in a group of engineers and designers to complete technical portions of projects within established budgets and schedules.Familiarity with discipline-specific tools such as: Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.Knowledge of applicable codes & standards (International Mechanical Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, etc).Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Preferred Qualifications:In addition to the Basic Qualifications the ideal candidate might also have:Engineering-in-Training (EIT), or ability to obtainStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Self-motivated and team-oriented professional with high personal integrityWork Environment :Primarily office-based work in a secure engineering environmentAmentum office location is preferred; hybrid or remote work may be available by prior agreement based on role and project requirementsOccasional exposure to industrial facilities, which may include elevated noise levels, hazardous materials, or controlled areasSite visits may be requiredPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 35 lbs occasionallyVision correctable to 20/20Ability to read and use computer-aided design software effectivelyAppropriate PPE and training will be provided as requiredCompliance & Eligibility Requirements:U.S.

Citizenship required (no dual citizenship)Valid driver's license is requiredAbility to obtain and maintain a security clearanceAbility to pass pre-employment background investigation and drug screeningWillingness to work overtime or outside normal hours as neededProfessional appearance appropriate for a customer-facing engineering environmentTravel required: less than 10%Compensation Details:$75,000 - $115,000The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued.
