Overview

This position supports the Engineering & Technical Services group by providing design review, development of specifications, and support of plant electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects. This is a strong opportunity for a mid-level electrical engineer to build on their foundation and take on greater project ownership in a complex industrial/process facility. The individual will work with senior engineers, and discipline leads to select and integrate equipment, while independently handling day-to-day technical and project tasks within their scope.

The electrical engineer functionally reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in project meetings, staying informed of project status and actively supporting the project's technical needs.
  • Assists with troubleshooting problems related to installed systems.
  • Supports project managers and other engineers in the planning, execution, and management of capital projects.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 70E and Article 500 of the NEC.
  • Assists in the development of project budgets, estimates project costs, and prepares bid specifications.
  • Responds to submittals and RFIs, allowing for their timely turnaround.
  • Supports the development of new process and equipment procedures.
  • Documents project information for future regulatory review.
  • Identifies and documents lessons learned for use in future projects.
  • Contributes to the execution of projects related to low and medium voltage power systems, controls systems, security systems, instrumentation, and other industrial plant electrical projects.
  • Helps ensure projects meet objectives concerning quality, technical specifications, reliability, schedule, and budget.
  • Helps coordinate internal and external resources to ensure materials, equipment, and services are delivered on time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Approximately 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a facility of similar complexity to a power plant (e.g., manufacturing, process, industrial, or utility environment) — power plant experience is not required.
  • Solid understanding of AC/DC power principles, with working exposure to switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, motors, instrumentation, or controls systems.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret drawings and technical documents.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and work with a reasonable degree of independence.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
