Section Instructor (Online)
The Section Instructor is responsible for the academic success of students enrolled in an online Social Work course in accordance with program and course objectives and syllabi.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate approximately 1.5 hours of live section teaching per week, provide 1–1.5 hours of electronic support and scheduled appointments, prepare 1.5–3 hours of teaching materials, attend monthly faculty meetings (1–2.5 hours per term), grade and assess student work (4–5 hours per week).
- Teach material from the approved curriculum in accordance with the syllabus and course design.
- Assume responsibility for academic supervision and teaching of enrolled students.
- Attend regular mandatory program meetings, including one whole faculty meeting per term.
- Provide full coverage for all scheduled synchronous sessions.
- Participate in and lead asynchronous discussions and didactic sessions.
- Maintain and evaluate records of students’ academic and field performance within the LMS.
- Provide meaningful and timely feedback on asynchronous and required written assignments, within 7–10 days of due dates.
- Maintain administrative and academic components of the course section, including grading of assignments, exams, and clinical activities.
- Communicate regularly with program administration regarding course and student performance, problems, and concerns.
- Respond to student questions within 24–48 hours.
- Foster an online culture of learning that values professionalism, accountability, empathy, lifelong learning, respect for diversity, and ethically‑minded practice.
Qualifications
- PhD or DSW in Social Work required.
- At least 5 years of social work education experience required.
- Graduate‑level teaching experience preferred.
- Online teaching exposure/experience preferred.
Technical Requirements
- Wired high‑speed internet connection (minimum 8Mbps download & 3Mbps upload).
- Full‑powered laptop or desktop computer less than 3 years old; not a netbook or tablet.
- Up‑to‑date operating system; older OS such as WindowsXP/Vista or MacOSX10.6/10.7 are not supported.
- Webcam; laptop webcams are usually sufficient.
- Phone with excellent reception if using a mobile phone.
- Headset with microphone for phone, if needed.
Compensation
The position offers $6,090 per section. It is a non‑benefits eligible adjunct faculty role. Compensation is set at a fixed rate per course and does not vary with experience or education.
