Mechanical Drafter
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Drafter to produce accurate technical drawings and fabrication-ready documentation for equipment and piping in oil and gas and industrial projects. The Drafter will convert field sketches, engineering notes, and 3D models into clear 2D fabrication and construction drawings, ensuring compliance with ASME standards and company drafting practices. The role supports engineering and project teams to deliver on schedule while maintaining high quality and constructability.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise detailed 2D drawings and drawing sets for mechanical equipment, piping, supports, and assemblies using AutoCAD and SolidWorks; produce fabrication and installation drawings.
- Interpret engineering specifications, P&IDs, field sketches, and 3D models to create accurate drawings and BOMs, ensuring alignment with project requirements and constructability.
- Ensure all drawings comply with ASME standards, company drafting conventions, and client specifications; apply appropriate tolerances, material notes, and welding symbols.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication shops to resolve design and constructability issues, incorporate feedback, and issue controlled revisions.
- Maintain and organize drawing files, revision histories, and transmittal records in the document control system; prepare prints and digital packages for procurement and construction.
- Support the preparation of isometric sketches, fabrication details, and part models in SolidWorks as needed; extract and verify dimensions for procurement and fabrication.
- Perform quality checks and coordinate drawing reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project timelines and QA/QC procedures.
- Provide drafting support during site surveys, field verification, and site installation as required, capturing as-built changes and updating documentation.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of drafting experience, preferably in the oil and gas, petrochemical, or industrial sector.
- Proficient in AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD); strong ability to create fabrication-ready drawings and extract manufacturing information.
- Working knowledge of ASME standards and welding symbols; familiarity with piping codes and pressure equipment standards is a plus.
- Experience interpreting P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical specifications; ability to translate engineering data into clear drawings.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent communication skills and experience coordinating with engineering, procurement, and fabrication teams; ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
