Position Overview The Department is seeking a well-qualified individual to serve as Stationary Engineer-Chief at Robinson Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will work to ensure that the staff supervised provide proficient and timely attention to the maintenance operational needs of the facility. Preparation of various reports will require attention to accuracy and detail, and the candidate will be essential in overseeing the needs and feasibility of major repairs or new construction at the facility. Essential Functions Manages, coordinates, and administers all phases of the physical operations at Stateville Correctional Center including emergency, security and preventative maintenance and utility distribution systems. Serves as working supervisor. Advises administration on need and feasibility of major repairs, new construction and large equipment purchases. Prepares maintenance cost reports, requisitions, personnel reports, monthly, semi-annual and annual reports. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires seven (7) years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades.

Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience implementing principles, practices and methods used in the operation of high-pressure gas fired boilers and auxiliaries. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience in steam engineering, electrical generation and distribution. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience utilizing principles of water treatment and sewage treatment operations. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience in the repair and construction of buildings and equipment. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience supervising staff. Prefers at least five (5) years of professional experience working with administrative staff to advise on need and feasibility of major repairs, new construction, and large equipment purchases. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience preparing reports and requisitions regarding all aspects of maintenance operations. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience planning and directing the training of individuals working in physical plant operations. Prefers at least five (5) years of working experience reading and interpreting blueprints. Prefers completion of OSHA 10 training.

Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited. This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings. This position requires the ability to work at heights, including on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, or elevated platforms, while adhering to all safety regulations and using appropriate fall protection measures. Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
