We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Division Manager to join our growing team in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Division Manager Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day operations of the assigned division, implementing plans and policies to achieve overall corporate objectives, ensuring profitable growth and fulfilling the company's commitment to the community.
- Manage the division, controlling short‑term and long‑range plans consistent with profit and growth objectives, including the division’s strategic plan.
- Provide key management direction to managerial and supervisory personnel, motivating them to function as a cohesive organization.
- Encourage the development of company spirit, exemplifying fairness, creativity, integrity, and healthy aggressiveness while producing maximum benefit to employees, LLC members, customers, and the community.
- Interact with other management personnel to foster general information exchange and maintain a harmonious working relationship with all divisions and departments.
- Monitor, control, schedule, and balance the workload for managerial personnel.
- Ensure proper training of all managerial, productive, and administrative personnel in the division.
- Monitor and ensure that all designated employees possess the appropriate contractor’s license.
- Take appropriate action to ensure that items on the Division Calendar are completed on schedule.
- Monitor and control reports designated in General Policies & Operating Procedures.
- Conduct weekly and monthly management meetings to review information, discuss upcoming workload, and conduct individual meetings as necessary.
- Monitor and control company policies and procedures, including:
- The Division Office Operating Procedures (GPOP)
- Warehouse procedures
- The Quality Assurance Program
- The Hazard Communication Program
- The Substance Abuse Program
- Vehicle usage
- Safety and Hot Work Program
Finance
- Assure the preparation of Financial Statements and monitor expense versus budget.
- Take appropriate action when applied overhead decreases below budget, considering potential workload.
- Review and approve financial statements, projecting year‑end profit or loss.
- Monitor and control finances and expenses in areas including profit or loss, petty cash, and tool purchases.
Project Management
- Control and verify accuracy of project management reports on all jobs.
- Monitor and control the project management function on all jobs.
- Ensure the job processing function is properly completed on all jobs.
- Review appropriate reports to assure profitability of all jobs.
- Review and approve the Monthly Job Status Updates and Monthly Job Productivity Reports.
- Assure accuracy of the division’s anticipated hours.
- Monitor and control the accuracy of explanations to the Post‑Job Conference Reports.
- Monitor and control estimating, including:
- Assignment of estimators to specific projects
- Ensure estimates are entered into the Estimate Log
- Ensure all paperwork and procedures are adhered to
- Review and approve estimates and design/build projects within authorized limits
- Recommend changes concerning material, labor, and EPAs
Production
- Control and verify accuracy of productivity reports.
- Monitor details affecting productivity, including:
- Assignment of management and supervisor/foremen to projects
- Wage rates, labor, and supervision on jobs
- Efficient and economical job completion methods
- Number of trucks driving to jobs
- Workers’ punctuality, correcting unsafe activity, and coordination of worker and tool transfer between divisions
Marketing
- Develop the marketing function of the division (public relations and sales).
- Generate a customer base that includes negotiated work (Business Development).
- Attend relevant local contractors’ organization meetings.
- Make contacts with general contractors and residential and commercial developers.
- Obtain new information on new general contractors and developers.
- Monitor the electrical construction market in the division’s geographical area to identify potential customers and initiate contact.
Position Requirements
- Licenses: Current driver’s license (if required) and applicable federal, state, and local licenses as required by job conditions or the company.
- Certifications: Applicable federal, state, and local certifications as required.
- Education: High School Graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent Watson training.
- Experience: Required or necessary experience and/or training to perform all aspects of the position efficiently and productively.
- Working Conditions:
- Majority of work performed in an office environment.
- Visits to job sites may require exposure to heat, cold, rain, or snow, depending on time of year and location.
- Must utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta‑Johns).
- Wear personal protective equipment as required by the Safety Handbook.
- Work 40 hours per week, overtime, night shifts, and out of town if needed.
