The Department of Surgery at Creighton University Medical Center CHI Health is excited to recruit an academic Chief of Thoracic Surgery to be part of our vibrant program and expand our clinical, research, and educational activities in conjunction with our Department of Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, and Lynch Cancer Center.
The department is one of the nation’s highest quality, award‑winning programs. Our thoracic surgery program works with interventional medical and surgical teams in an integrated, multispecialty system, committed to the highest quality and outcomes. The program is further augmented by our inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program. Resident activity with the department of surgery is highly engaging at our University Medical Center and Level I Trauma Center. The department trains over 25 residents and fellows, while the section of Pulmonary and Critical Medicine trains 15 fellows year over year.
Candidates will be working in an academic and teaching environment educating Creighton University’s surgical residents and medical students and conducting research in collaboration with scientists within Common Spirit Health and the Creighton University School of Medicine. The ideal candidate will be board‑certified in thoracic surgery with fellowship training in non‑cardiac thoracic surgery, have clinical experience in the management of thoracic diseases, and be trained in minimally invasive or robotic‑assisted surgery. A strong academic interest, participation in resident education, and clinical research are expected. A minimum of 5 years of experience with demonstrated leadership skills is preferred. A track record of scholarly and educational activities at the level of Associate Professor at Creighton University School of Medicine is desired.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Expertise in robotic thoracic surgery
- Collaborative work with foregut/minimally invasive surgery and pulmonary medicine teams
- Educate Creighton University’s surgical residents, medical students, and conduct research with Common Spirit Health and Creighton University School of Medicine
- Report to the Creighton Chair of Surgery and CHI Director of Surgery

Job Requirements
- American Board Certified or Board Eligible in the specified area of medical specialty
- A valid and unrestricted state medical license or license‑eligible
- Board‑certified in thoracic surgery with fellowship training in non‑cardiac thoracic surgery
- Clinical experience in the management of thoracic diseases
- Training in minimally invasive or robotic‑assisted surgery

Pay Range
$710,000 - $770,000 /year
