Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, the District Support Pharmacist (DSP) role cultivates a culture of excellence within each pharmacy, acting as a role model and demonstrating genuine care for patients. DSPs support the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader by covering scheduling gaps, overseeing pharmacy operations, and managing the pharmacy team across district stores.

Responsibilities

  • Live our purpose by ensuring safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Travel district pharmacies to cover pharmacist shifts and act as Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
  • Support accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails.
  • Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when the primary pharmacist is on duty.
  • Improve patient experiences through empathy, coaching for compassionate care, collaboration with other healthcare professionals, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations, supporting Pharmacy Technicians in learning immunization techniques.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory—including protecting cold‑chain products—by guiding the team in best practices.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintain clinical and technical skills through ongoing training, CMEs, and self‑development opportunities.
  • Deliver pharmacist‑led clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible, empowering the team to provide holistic care.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to safeguard patients and protect privacy.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframes.
  • Attention and Focus
    • Concentrate on tasks over time, pivot quickly between tasks, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy for patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation
    • Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication Skills
    • Use verbal and written communication effectively; practice active listening and appropriate timing when speaking.
  • Mathematical Reasoning
    • Apply math to determine total tablets, day’s supply, and bottle quantities for prescriptions.
  • Problem Resolution
    • Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action among alternatives.
  • Physical Demands
    • Mobile, upright for extended periods, lift items up to 20 lbs, reach overhead, and use fingers for repetitive tasks.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1‑2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is $65.00 – $81.00 per hour or base salary. Actual offers depend on experience, education, geography, and other factors. The position is eligible for bonus, commission, or short‑term incentive programs.
