Job Purpose and Summary

Within our Retail locations, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating excellence by acting as role models, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team.

As a DSP, you support the district by covering pharmacist scheduling gaps under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager (PM) and Rx District Leader (DL). You will work in stores throughout the district, supporting management, oversight, and operation of the pharmacy and its team.

Responsibilities

The DSP's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Living our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Traveling the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator (DPC); overseeing the pharmacy and serving as the Pharmacy Manager's proxy during bench shifts.
  • Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and utilizing safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Assuming the Pharmacy Manager's day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, coaching the pharmacy team, and proactively resolving insurance and medication issues.
  • Offering and delivering immunizations; engaging Pharmacy Technicians to learn immunization practices.
  • Managing pharmacy inventory by following best practices, especially protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintaining clinical and technical skills, pursuing training and CMEs to expand knowledge.
  • Providing pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies, including controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions include:

  • Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:
    • Concentration on tasks and rapid pivoting between tasks.
    • Confirming prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Actively looking for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
    • Noticing and understanding patient reactions, responding appropriately.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Effective verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
    • Active listening, giving full attention, asking questions, and avoiding inappropriate interruptions.
  • Mathematical Reasoning:
    • Using math to solve problems such as calculating quantities for prescriptions.
  • Problem Resolution:
    • Identifying challenging interactions and choosing the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mobility and ability to remain upright for extended periods.
    • Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; stretch or reach with arms and legs.
    • Repeated finger movements, typing, and detailed work.
    • Precise machine adjustments and heavy visual acuity tasks.
    • Lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently; negligible force for most tasks.
    • Verbal communication of detailed instructions and receipt of information.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Anticipated Weekly Hours: 40

Time Type: Full time

Pay Range: $60.00 - $76.00

This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, retirement savings, and wellness programs.
