District Payroll SpecialistReports To: School Business OfficialRequired Qualifications:Two years of post-secondary education with coursework in business, math, accounting, bookkeeping or other related area preferredKnowledge of the school system structure, policies and proceduresProficient computer skills to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office & Google DriveEffective communication skillsAbility to maintain high level of confidentialityAbility to work within a team setting with multiple contributors on projectsStrong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to multitaskWillingness to learn and acquire new skillsCleared criminal, child and adult abuse background checksPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree preferredPayroll and/or Accounts Payable experienceExperience in with Software UnlimitedEssential Functions:Processes payroll information in accordance with established employment agreements, assuring accurate coding and funds distribution for timely and accurate payment of district employeesBalances the monthly payrollAssumes responsibility for knowledge of federal and state wages and hour law, and related regulationsCoordinates with other district personnel to establish and maintain employee contracts, federal and state tax forms, and direct deposit informationPrepares and distributes annual tax information (i.e. W-2 statements)Responds to requests for verification of employmentRecommends policies, procedures and/or actions for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district's payroll objectives.Assists the business manager with fiscal year end and end of calendar year reportsManages employee files, transcripts, and lane changesCooperates with the auditors retained by the districtAttends required training programsPerforms other duties as delegated by the Business ManagerKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, perform complex arithmetic operations and use calculatorsOrganizational and time management skillsConfidentialityRegular and reliable attendanceCommunicates effectively with others while maintaining a positive attitudeAbility to report work verbally and in writing to Business Manager /Human Resource Director as requiredAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding school district financial and other informationProficient in the operation of general office equipment including, but not limited to, copy machines, printers, and telephonesComputers applications including word processing, database, and spreadsheet softwareAptitude to learn and utilize advanced technology (TimeClock Plus, Aesop, Software Unlimited, etc.)Physical Demands/ Mental Demands/ Environmental Factors:Able to work with interruptionsAble to stand/walk throughout the dayAble to sit for periods of timeNoise level may be quiet to loudWork may be indoors or outTerms of Employment:Wage and work year to be established by Administration Employment per Board Policies and Administrative Rules and regulationsEvaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with board policy Evaluation is the responsibility of the Business Manager.Disclaimer:The statements in this job description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
